Location | Short Sands Beach & Nubble Lighthouse, York, Maine
After a busy fall, I finally was able to capture Stephanie and Ronny’s engagement session. We had planned to do it in early October, but it was pouring rain that day, and while shooting in the rain can be fun and creative sometimes, it would not have been as good as a sunny day. So when we were able to reschedule to late October we thankfully had an amazing, clear, blue sky, sunny, fall day — it was just a bit cool and windy. Which worked out in our favor because there were a lot fewer people at the Nubble Lighthouse — a super popular tourist destination in the summer.
We started the session off down on the rocks with the Nubble Lighthouse in the background. It is such a quintessential Maine lighthouse view. Picturesque. I was amazed at Stephanie’s heel hiking abilities. Climbing down onto the rocks isn’t easy and she was able to make it down there without a problem wearing pretty large heels. There was a pretty good breeze coming off of the ocean which was whipping up large waves. The waves were crashing upon the rock and shooting water high into the sky. All we had to do was time it just right. We would all be watching the ocean and the waves coming in, when we saw a hopeful one Stephanie and Ronny would get into position and just as the wave crashed I would fire off some photos. After several waves, we finally got one that really launched the water into the sky.
I then positioned them on the protected side of the peninsula, where the water was much calmer so I could get them as close to the water as possible. The combination of the water, rocks, blue sky and the clouds that were moving in on the horizon completed the composition.
After capturing all these marvelous images at the Nubble Lighthouse we packed up and headed just down the road to Short Sands beach. We walked the beach, sat in the sand, and stared at the ocean. Stephanie had a perfect white sun hat that made for some unique and special ring detail photos. As the sun was setting, generating a beautiful golden light, we created one last photo on a park bench with the ocean in the background. We couldn’t have picked a better day for their engagement session.
We are all looking forward to their wedding next May at The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine.
I hope you enjoy Stephanie and Ronny’s Engagement session!
How long have you been together?
We have been together for 7 and a half years!
Tell us how you first met.
Ronny and I were best friends before we started dating. We had met through mutual friends and had an indescribable bond from the get-go. We had similar interests and we were immediately drawn to each other. When I went to school in Boston for a semester I would talk to him every night either through phone calls or texts and I would look for any excuse to come home. We loved spending time together and being apart was becoming more and more difficult. We were just friends until we realized that it was much more than that. Though we were worried that our friendship and relationship may fail we decided to take the chance… and we are so glad that we did. Ron asked me to be his girlfriend on March 4th of 2009 and the rest is history.
When did you get engaged?
We got engaged on July 3, 2015.
Tell us about the proposal.
Last year on Fourth of July weekend Ronny and I went away to Newport Rhode Island for the weekend. We were skeptical that we would ever get a room but Ronny did last minute! We had amazing weekend going to the beach, trying new restaurants, and exploring downtown. We had lunch and Ronny suggested that we go to the cliff walk. I had mentioned going there briefly but never expected him to remember that, let alone suggest it. I agreed and we went to the cliff walk and he guided me out to a private setting right on the shore. It was like he had been there before and had the perfect spot picked out. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and of course I said YES!
