Location | Coppal House Farm, Lee, NH
We set out before dawn on what would be a beautiful summer’s day. Before the sun had even peaked over the horizon we arrived at Coppal House Farm for their annual sunrise sunflower festival. They have beautiful fields of sunflowers as far as the eye can see. While the sunflowers are a sight to see on their own we weren’t just there for the flowers.
We met up with Angela and Vanessa for a special birthday photo session for Vanessa’s 25th birthday. This was the first time that either of them had a professional photographer create images for them, but you’d never know it. They were complete naturals in front of the camera. We explored the sunflower fields, creating images while walking through the paths as well as a lovely hayfield right next to the sunflowers.
I hope you enjoy Angela and Vanessa’s portrait session!
What does the shoot and location mean to your friendship?
“There is nothing left to worry about… the sun and her flowers are here.” ~Rupi Kaur
Angela | I’ve read this book from front to back so many times, and each time I uncover a new lesson from the text. Written by Rupi Kaur, the Sun and Her Flowers celebrates the love, femininity, and power of womanhood, illustrating life as an exploration of an artistic journey. This teaches us how to grow from our past and use it to give birth to new beginnings. I selected this mostly because I wanted to celebrate our new beginnings, as we venture off into different paths in our life. Eight years ago, our families met at a local church and we have been inseparable ever since. Through the highs and the lows, we’ve been supporting one another.
Tell us about yourself & your goals for the next year
Angela | I’m a recent grad from Bates College. Fresh out of college, I was recruited as a Program Manager to mentor and counsel young girls. My main goal for this year is to be the best mentor I can be to the young women I work with. I want to be able to provide the resources to become successful young women and be a good support system for them. I look forward to seeing their growth and building relationships with each and every one of them.
Vanessa | Birthday July 22nd
This year I turned 25 years old. A woman! They said. “You can get married and have children now,” my mother said. Like I couldn’t do so before. While everyone had goals and dreams for me as a 25-year-old, I had others in mind. At 25 years old my goal is to continue to embrace every part of me, good and bad. To love all my curves and features. I want to fall in love with me and cherish myself like no one ever could. I want to use my knowledge to help other little girls like me to flourish. I vow to become more disciplined and to expand like a sponge and suck in all the knowledge I can.
