Tell us how you first met.
We first met on a blind date set up by two mutual friends. Katie, Kelly’s friend/MOH, works for Harpoon Brewery, and she set us up with two tickets to Harpoon’s BBQ championships in VT. We met there and talked for the rest of the afternoon till the championships closed and couldn’t end it there. It was such a great night that we decided go to dinner and a movie from there. It was pretty amazing we got along well enough to practically go on three dates in one day! After thinking on the drive home, Tyler couldn’t help but ask me out again for dinner on the very next Thursday. I think we both were pretty well involved at that point!
When did you know he/she was the one?
Tyler: I never really knew when it happened, but for the first time ever, it felt right. She is someone that could put up with building a house and living in difficult situations. She had to be it. We also enjoyed so much together, and have plans for so much in the future.
Kelly: When we first met, I could not believe someone could have so many common interests. It was just easy from the start. We have had a lot of great adventures, and I can’t wait to continue our plans into the future.
Tell us about the proposal.
Tyler: The proposal happened on the day we moved into our new house. It was our first night in the house, and we had just finished unpacking what we could. Kelly wanted to take a shower and go to bed, but I wanted to have a toast to celebrate our completion of the house build and finally moving it. It took some convincing but Kelly finally agreed after a long day. After having our toast I got down on one knee and asked Kelly if she would marry me. “Are you sure?!” was her response! Of course I was sure. I was on one knee with a ring in my hand! She finally said “yes” and the next phase of planning and decision making got started.
Kelly: I couldn’t have been more surprised. I was so tired and on a mission to enjoy a good night’s sleep in the new house. I had no idea that he had a ring in his pocket all day during the move!
What’s the one thing you love most about each other?
Tyler: I’ve never met someone who could keep up with me skiing. It’s also amazing to have someone to share my passion for farming, hiking, and the love for the outdoors.
Kelly: I love Ty’s ability to stay positive and make me laugh, even when life isn’t easy. We balance each other well, and I can’t wait to keep building a life of shared passions.
Besides getting married, what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Tyler: Besides being done with the stress and the work that went into getting here. I’m looking forward to the food, the drinks, and the family and friends all together!
Kelly: The planning will be over, and we can just enjoy time with each other, our family and friends. I am so excited to welcome so many people to see the beautiful farm that I now call home.
