Jennifer and Peter Thompson’s Wedding Date | 09/06/2014
Jen and Peter had a wonderful summer (camp) wedding. They got married at the YMCA North Woods and Pleasant Valley Camp which is located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee right outside of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. It was a beautiful spot for their wedding with the ceremony looking out over the lake. Fittingly Jen styled the entire wedding to be summer camp themed — from the invitations to the smores at the end of the night every detail was taken care of. It made for the a perfect summer day (camp) :)
Jennifer & Peter’s Wedding
Tell us how you first met.
Peter and I met on match.com. I had not had much success so I went online one night in April 2012 to cancel my subscription as it was about to renew. When I logged on, I was shown a “new member” that had just joined and it was Peter. I read his profile and saw his pictures and immediately thought, “he looks like one of the nice ones”. So, I said what the heck and emailed him. He wrote back the next day and from that point on we emailed every day until our first date. We had to wait over 3 weeks for our first date as both of us were traveling for work so we had our first date at Elm City Brewery in Keene NH the day Peter got home after a four-week work trip. It didn’t feel like a first date as we had been emailing, texting and talking on the phone for 3 weeks and felt really comfortable.
When did you know he/she was the one?
Jennifer: Probably three weeks after our first date when he took me to help him pick out everything for his kitchen remodel. He kept using the words “us” and “we” with the sales folks :). Seriously though, I can’t remember the exact moment in time when I knew he was the one, but I do remember about 3 or 4 months into our relationship thinking how everything felt so easy and natural with him – nothing like I had experienced before. I never had to wonder where we stood in our relationship, he always communicated how he felt about me and where we were going.
Peter: Like Jennifer, it didn’t just hit me one day, it was more gradual than that. Our relationship has always been comfortable from day one, but I guess I didn’t “know” until I was ready to propose.
Tell us about the proposal.
Well, we had our first “real” vacation in June/July when Peter came to Paris to meet me at the end of a 2 week-long work trip. We then stayed in Paris for a few days then headed to Provence and the South of France. Most everyone thought he would do it somewhere in Paris (like the top of the Eiffel tower) as Paris is my favorite city. On our way to the Eiffel Tower, Peter informed me it was not happening because it was “too cliché”. I was actually ok with this, as I felt we weren’t 100% ready yet. Fast forward 3 months later to September 27th. Our favorite place in the world is Lake Winnipesaukee (yes, of all the places we’ve been – it’s still our favorite place to be) and we are fortunate that Peter’s family has a home in Meredith. We decided to spend a weekend up at the lake just the two of us as Peter was heading off for a month-long work trip the following week. All week-long leading up to the weekend, Peter kept mentioning how he wanted to make sure we did a boat ride. That Saturday morning he helped me bake cupcakes for a family reunion the following day at his parent’s Vermont home and then a little before lunch time we decided to journey out to Wolfeboro for lunch on the boat. As we were heading to Wolfeboro, I noticed Peter was going a little different way so me being a bit of a control freak, I had to ask what he was doing and where he was going. He told me he was taking a different route. A few minutes later, we were traveling through the broads (the deepest part of the lake but also the middle of the lake) and the boat stopped. I thought the boat had died and quickly yelled over to him what had happened – he proceeded to join me in the front of the boat and proposed. He definitely had me by surprise!
What’s the one thing you love most about each other?
Jennifer: Peter is so optimistic – while I have had a tendency to be a bit of a pessimist. He has really taught me to see the “silver lining” in all things and it has truly made a positive impact on my life the last few years. He is also so very considerate with my needs and making sure I am always happy and taken care of. I am usually known for the role of being a caretaker and it’s so very nice to know I have him to count on for the rest of my life.
Peter: Jennifer has many great qualities but what really does it for me is how well she compliments me. In every area I am weak she is strong. She makes me a better person; more caring, more sensitive and more motivated.
Besides getting married, what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Jennifer: I look forward to celebrating with all of our friends and family that we do not get to see very often because of our busy lives. It will be so nice to be in one setting with everyone to celebrate a happy occasion.
Peter: I am looking forward to bringing all the people we care for together in one place. Many of these people have never met each other and it will be great to bring them all together to finally meet.
I hope you enjoyed the photos from Jen & Peter’s wedding.
