Tell us how you first met.
It was my second night working as a bartender at the Red Lantern in Worcester, MA (which is a Chinese restaurant). Him and his friends came in for scorpion bowls which they used to call the Monday night bowling league.
When did you know he/she was the one?
Jonny: It’s hard to put into words but Jonny said it was after I had a sassy Courtney moment and told him not to come into the bar again. Not listening to me he came in the next night. While I was pouring someone a drink I looked up to see him and gave him a smile and he knew I was the one.
Courtney: It wasn’t a specific moment that I knew it was a feeling I had in my heart that told me he was the one. That feeling kept me holding on even when it seemed like he would never grow up and settle down.

Tell us about the proposal.
It was a long time coming… about 6 years worth. He told me that we were going to go out to eat with his boss Raj and his wife Sharan that night when we had plans to go to Newport. I wasn’t in the best mood because he had been at work all day and then he was dropping this bomb on me but I agreed not understanding why it had to be that exact night. The restaurant was next to our favorite restaurant Baba which was owned by the same person. I didn’t understand why we were going to the other restaurant and not Baba until later in the evening after he proposed. Baba is so small and crowded and I’m not into big displays in front of a crowd where I’m the center of attention. The restaurant cleared out so it was only the four of us at a table in the entire restaurant which was pretty strange too looking back at it because it was a Friday night (I later found out they closed the restaurant so he could propose). Raj kept complaining of an upset stomach and Sharan said she would go to the car to get him so medicine but he had to come with her. While they were gone the waiter came over and handed Jonny a specials menu and handed me a special specials menu and his hand was shaking. I didn’t think anything of it but as I started reading it I noticed the specials were very romantic like “love at first sight” or “your smile brightens my day” so I scrolled to the bottom being impatient and saw my name, Courtney Estelle Hanrahan. I thought oh shoot these specials are about me! I didn’t want to give it away that I had already skipped to the bottom so I scrolled back up to the top and started reading it again. I was crying at this point and Jonny got down on one knee as I finished reading the menu and asked me to marry him. As a joke I said “No” but then quickly said, of course, I will. The wait staff came out with champagne to celebrate and Raj and Sharan came back inside to congratulate us. Jonny then said let’s go eat dinner at Legal Seafood’s in Natick, MA the location of our first real date. When we got to Legal he surprised me by arranging for my family and his family to be in the back in a special function room so they were all there to congratulate and celebrate with us. Fun fact: We got married exactly a year after we got engaged. July 5, 2013, we got engaged and July 5, 2014, we got married!!
What’s the one thing you love most about each other?
We both love the fact that the only people we need to have fun with is each other. No matter where we are or what we are doing we have fun together and we don’t need anyone else.
Besides getting married, what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Dancing and celebrating with our closest friends and family!
