Location | Durham, NH
I photographed Holley & Connor at Holley’s cousin’s farm right on the Piscataqua River in Durham, NH. Oh wow, it a beautiful location for their engagement session with so much to offer. Starting off we had the barn, which had beautiful old red doors and an old antique tractor that her cousin fired right up and parked it in front of the barn for us. Moving a bit away from the barn and into the fields, were these huge rolled up hay bales. The hay bales made for a great addition to their compositions. I positioned them in front of the bales, one on it and one on the ground, and both on it. Whenever I photograph engagement session I am always looking to integrate the couples into the scene in a natural way. There was also the added bonus of the field looking out over the water, which made the location even more beautiful.
Around the perimeter of the field there were these great trees and bushes that I used as glowing backlit backdrops as we started getting into the Golden Hour of shooting. I really love photographing engagement session this time of year. The early fall light is always so beautiful and definitely has a special look to it. After exploring the whole farm for different photo spots we headed down the street to the boat landing to create some photos by the water. The photos overlooking the Piscataqua River made for a perfect ending to an amazing engagement session.
It is safe to say that I am super excited to photograph their wedding next August at The Red Barn at Outlook Farm in South Berwick, ME.
I hope you enjoy Holley and Connor’s Engagement session in Durham, NH!
How long have you been together?
We have officially been together for 2 years and 9 months but we have known each other for ten years!
Tell us how you first met.
This is something we often joke about — we’ve known each other since we were kids so we really can’t remember the first time we actually met! Connor’s parents owned the horse stable that Holley rode at for years through middle and high school so that is where we met. Holley rode horses, Connor worked around the barn :) …it was the best!
Everyone always says when you find “the one” you know it — and Holley can definitely say that even then I always had a feeling he would be “the one,” but I could never quite explain how I knew. It took Connor a little longer to get there, but he figured it out in time. We were friends for years and always knew we liked each other, but things seemed to keep getting in the way, whether it was school or distance or other big family events (both good and bad). When Connor was coming close to graduating college and was trying to figure out what he wanted to do for work and where he wanted to live, “us” finally seemed like now or never, with Holley having moved to New Hampshire. We chose now and decided we were going to do whatever it took to make it work. We think it was the right choice.
When did you get engaged?
We got engaged on May 15, 2016. It was awesome! Holley ran her first full marathon in May 2016, and Connor proposed at the finish line! She was COMPLETELY surprised (and out of breath…). Her parents and cousins were there to watch- it was great. Holley graduated from college that week too — so many big life events!
Something else to add.
Our family and friends are everything to us. For us, the lines between the two are blurred. The support we receive from them is what has allowed us to even get to this point. Just in the time we have been together, we have lost too many we love far too early, but fortunately, have gained far more. We can’t wait to celebrate on our wedding day with the ones we love, while thinking about the ones we would love to be able to have there with us.
